Leeds United managing director Angus Kinnear was optimistic at the start of the month.

Leeds United’s disappointing transfer window is causing real angst among the fanbase.
No money has been spent on permanent transfers so far, with less than three weeks until the season kicks off.
Hopes were high when Leeds appointed new manager Marcelo Bielsa in June, but the initial wave of optimism has evaporated.
Here is a look back at his comments: “We are making progress. It’s slow, it’s a tough market and there are things that are slow because of the World Cup but we expect things to speed up once people return back from that.
“There’ll be bigger moves at other clubs which trigger moves we might be able to make. It’s slow and steady but it’s absolutely under control. The discussions continue. It’s very considered and we’re not rushing into anything.”

Now might be the time for Leeds to rush, and Kinnear’s comments about the situation being ‘absolutely under control’ looks like false bravado.
Back in March, Kinnear pledged: “The board has agreed a recruitment strategy with the head coach, director of football and scouting team, founded on the learnings from this season and we are expecting an exciting summer.”
All Kinnear’s comments did at the time was raise confidence, which appears to have been misplaced.
Players returned from the World Cup a week ago, with players who exited at the group stage leaving Russia almost a month ago.
A couple if big signings this week would change the perception about Leeds’ summer, but fans have been waiting for two months for a show of intent… and still nothing.
