If Julian Nagelsmann ends up being appointed as Tottenham Hotspur manager, not only would Djed Spence be handed a second chance but it could make Antonio Conte look very silly.

Famously, Conte described Spence as a ‘club signing’, via talkSPORT instead of a player he was keen on bringing in at Spurs in what was a rather public jab. And as we all know, the former Nottingham Forest right wing-back barely got minutes during his debut season.

However, Djed Spence and Julian Nagelsmann now have the golden opportunity of embarrassing Antonio Conte if they are a match made in heaven at Tottenham Hotspur.

How Tottenham duo Nagelsmann & Spence could embarrass Conte

For context’s sake, the Englishman failed to earn a single start for the Lilywhites during his debut campaign in any competition and was eventually shipped out to Ligue 1 side Rennes on loan in January.

The good news for Djed Spence is that he has a chance of disproving Antonio Conte if Julian Nagelsmann comes through the door at Tottenham, as he also is partial to wing-backs.

While one of football’s biggest mysteries remain why Conte favoured the limited Emerson Royal over Djed Spence, the latter could impress Nagelsmann at Tottenham, knowing his history of fielding attacking wing-backs like Angelino and Alphonso Davies in his teams before.

Seemingly, however, the German is insistent on at least one of his wing-backs being defensively solid, which is why he has seemingly not trusted the often-suspect Joao Cancelo at Bayern Munich and why Nordi Mukiele was his trusted foot solider at Leipzig.

But if Djed Spence, who was once branded as ‘unbelievable’ by Ian Wright via Nottinghamshire Live manages to prove himself defensively under Julian Nagelsmann, he could contend for a starting place, which would unjustly not even a topic of conversation for Antonio Conte at Tottenham.

For a manager that has tasted success through entrusting adventurous right wing-backs such as Stephan Lichsteiner and Victor Moses at Juventus and Chelsea respectively, it is mystery how the 22-year-old was never even given a sniff in favour of Royal, who has been a huge let-down of a signing.

All in all, Julian Nagelsmann and Djed Spence could potentially team up at Tottenham and make the potentially outgoing manager rue his mistake in N17.
