West Ham United legend Julian Dicks has spoken for the first time since leaving the club following Slaven Bilic’s sacking.
West Ham sacked Bilic on Monday morning following a disastrous start to the season with the club languishing in the bottom three after 11 games, as announced on the club’s official website.
Just two wins so far leaves the Hammers facing up to a relegation battle and Bilic has paid the ultimate price.
Former Sunderland boss David Moyes has been tipped to replace Bilic in East London, a decision that would prove universally unanimously unpopular with the club’s disgruntled supporters.
Bilic’s sacking also saw the Croatian’s coaching assistants Nikola Jurcevic, Edin Terzic, Miljenko Rak and Hammers legend Dicks leave the club with immediate effect.
And Dicks, who made over 260 appearances for the East Londoners scoring 50 goals, has now spoken for the first time since his departure in a message relayed to fans by his daughter on social media.
“I would just like to thank everyone for your best wishes you have sent me today,” Dicks said.
“I have loved my time at West Ham, which sadly has come to an end today, West Ham has always been in my heart and always will be.”
Former Manchester United utility man Phil Neville has been linked as a potential candidate for the assistant manager’s role at the London Stadium given his close association with Moyes.
But the pundit, who has had doomed spells at both Valencia and Manchester United as a coach, said he would only be interested in becoming a number one.
West Ham travel to face Watford at Vicarage Road after the international break.
