The latest regarding Joey Barton’s alleged move to West Ham United.
According to recent reports, including one from the Daily Mail, free agent Joey Barton was undergoing a medical at West Ham United today ahead of a move to Slaven Bilic’s side.
But tweets from West Ham coach Julian Dicks and joint-chairman David Sullivan’s son Jack Sullivan have given the story another twist.
Barton has been without a club since leaving Queens Park Rangers at the end of last season but it seems rumours of an imminent move to West Ham may – at the very least – be jumping the gun.
Sullivan took to Twitter on Monday afternoon to write an emphatic if cryptic tweet regarding the 32-year-old.
“Joey Barton is not having a medical TODAY,” Sullivan wrote, and the emphasis on the last word could suggest that a move is still in the offing…or even that the player has already completed the formalities with an announcement yet to be made.
Only time will tell, but when asked by a West Ham fan if Barton was having a medical Dicks replied, “Sorry mate, I don’t know,” before going on to retweet Sullivan’s message.
West Ham impressed with an opening weekend victory against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium and Barton would be an experienced addition to a promising squad, but whatever fans think of the potential move, for now it remains an unsubstantiated rumour.
