Alan Shearer thinks, ‘judging by’ Jurgen Klopp’s full-time reaction after Liverpool’s 3-0 win against Brentford, that he ‘doesn’t feel’ the title race is over yet, as he told Premier League Productions (16/01/22 at 3:55 pm).

When the full-time whistle blew at Anfield, Klopp was slapping his chest and fist-pumping towards the crowd in his old typical ways.

That win has seen Liverpool close the gap on runaway leaders Manchester City to 11 points, with Klopp’s men having a game in hand on their rivals.

Even if Liverpool close that gap to eight points, only an almighty collapse of the century would result in Pep Guardiola and his players not winning another Premier League title.

What was dubbed as a four-way title race at the start of the season isn’t even a two-horse race and the January transfer window isn’t even shut yet.

Nonetheless, Shearer shared his thoughts on Klopp’s passionate reaction to those three points against the Bees.

“He doesn’t feel like he is out of the Premier League title race yet,” said Shearer. “Judging by that reaction.

“It was a game they had to win. One or two scary moments in the second half. Mbeumo had a chance at 1-0, but other than that, Liverpool were in full control.”

Tim Sherwood added: “I liked him (Klopp) all day. I liked him pre-match, he was very relaxed and he fed that to the players. They played with a lot of confidence.

“Yes, they made it difficult, but in the end, there was only going to be one outcome and that was a comfortable day in the office for Liverpool.”

On two occasions under Klopp, the Reds have played out of their skin and managed to put 90+ points on the board over the course of the campaign.

Usually, that would result in two titles for the Reds, but not against the relentless billion-pound machine from the Etihad.

Man City are proving that you have to reach scary levels and produce record-breaking numbers to just get near them.

Even currently, the title holders are on a 12-game winning run in England’s top-flight and that’s after recently putting away the European Cup winners in Chelsea.
