Jamie Carragher did very well to wind Jude Bellingham up when he picked Arsenal’s Declan Rice in his Team of the Year over the Real Madrid star.

The Liverpool legend was competing with Micah Richards and Alex Scott in picking an XI for their own Team of the Year. Both would pick a player each.

When it came to the midfielders, Jamie Carragher had the first hit and you would imagine, with Jude Bellingham listening on, he would pick the Real Madrid midfielder.

Well, he started to build it up like he was going to by describing this player as ‘a young superstar from England’ and someone who has ‘lit the Champions League alight’ this season.

No, it wasn’t Jude Bellingham, but his England teammate and Arsenal’s £100 million man, Declan Rice, as he told CBS Sports.

After that snub, the former Dortmund star then made it clear that he preferred Micah Richards’ Team of the Year over Jamie Carragher’s.

The ex-Manchester City right-back then proceeded to pick Jude Bellingham in his XI, which he approved by stating ‘Love it. I am liking that team more and more now’.

“We go first on midfielders,” said Carragher. “For me, this is the easiest choice I have had to make.

“I am going to pick a young superstar from England, who has lit the Champions League alight this season.

“For me, it has to be only one man. I am going to choose Declan Rice,” added Carragher to the laughter of Jude Bellingham. “I got you there boy.”

Bellingham responded: “I am liking Micah (Richards’) team more and more.”

When Micah Richards then picked Bellingham in his TOTY, the Madrid star added: “Love it, Micah. I am liking that team more and more now.”

England’s midfield

Euro 2024 is around the corner and England are blessed to have some of the best players playing for them.

No more so than Bellingham, who is one of the best players in the world right now and Rice, who has made an outstanding start to life at Arsenal.

There is no reason why Gareth Southgate’s side, at the very least, shouldn’t be reaching the final.

From top to bottom, the team is full of world-class stars, including Bayern Munich’s record-breaking goalscorer, Harry Kane.
