Jude Bellingham has told Sky Sports – as per Football Daily – that Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is the most-professional player he has worked alongside while on England duty, claiming Henderson is “always doing extra”.

Henderson, 32, has just finished his 11th pre-season at Liverpool ahead of the 2022-23 campaign. With 450 Liverpool appearances under his belt, he will certainly come close to taking that number to 500 in all competitions this term.

That is, of course, if he remains fit. While Henderson has had the odd injury issue, the ex-Sunderland man is renowned for being the kind of player that puts others before him. Club before player. One of Liverpool’s most-iconic captains.

Bellingham – one of Liverpool’s long-term transfer targets – was full of praise for the Liverpool skipper. He was asked for his most-professional players at England and Dortmund level, and he picked Henderson for his work rate.

“I’d probably say Hendo,” Bellingham said, when asked for the most professional player he has played with at England level. “He’s always doing extra, always working so hard on the pitch. Even in the gym he is always putting it in.”

Bellingham: Liverpool captain Henderson most professional

It might not come as much of a surprise to Liverpool fans – or players. Certainly, if Bellingham does join Liverpool at some point, there is no doubting that Henderson will be one of the players he still deems most professional.

James Milner, Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson are certainly in that bracket, too. The leaders of the Liverpool side. Who knows, Bellingham could be on that list in a few years time. He is already a leader at Dortmund.

Indeed, with Henderson likely to be entering the last third of his professional career – most of which he is likely to spend at Liverpool with a contract until 2025 – Bellingham could be his long-term replacement.
