Jude Bellingham fired Borussia Dortmund to victory as the Liverpool target turned in a great performance against Copenhagen on Tuesday evening.
Bellingham didn’t move on during the summer window but all eyes are on the Dortmund ace ahead of a potential 2023 transfer.
The Daily Mail claimed in August that FSG are expecting Bellingham to become a Liverpool player next summer.
That will surely cost north of £100million but with Liverpool needing a new star midfielder, Bellingham is the most likely addition at Anfield.
Just look at Liverpool’s midfield recruitment on deadline day; a cheap loan for Arthur Melo was struck.
With no long-term commitment to the squad or the budget, Arthur’s arrival means the Reds can still go for a big signing – like Bellingham – next summer.
Jude Bellingham fired Borussia Dortmund to victory
Dortmund were 2-0 up by the break as Marco Reus and Raphael Guerreiro found the net.
The Danes couldn’t really muster a response but Dortmund were profligate and sloppy as they pursued a third goal.
Bellingham eventually took matters into his own hands, exchanging passes with Giovanni Reyna before slotting home.
That rounded off a superb display from Bellingham, who was praised by pundit Clive Allen on BT Sport.
“That is sensational from Bellingham,” said Allen. “It’s not just the finish though, it’s the one-touch pass out wide. He follows the pass and gets it cut back to him, that is a magnificent goal from the young Englishman.
The stats look great for Bellingham as well.
Bellingham racked up a goal, a key pass, two aerials won, four fouls won, one tackle, four interceptions and completed 69 of his 80 passes.
Bellingham also recorded 104 touches in an influential display, just six short of Niklas Sule on 110, the most in the game.
Bellingham showed his controlling, attacking and defending ability, proving again that he can be a complete midfielder.
Liverpool will have been watching very closely and whilst it’s only Copenhagen and bigger tests will come, this kind of dominance is great to see.
