Ahead of Aston Villa’s Championship playoff against West Bromwich Albion, B6 legend Juan Pablo Angel has made his feelings very clear on where he thinks the club should be.

The Villans dropped out of the Premier League in 2015-16 bottom of the table after a tumultuous campaign with four different managers – two permanent, two interim – at the helm.

The following season they finished in the bottom half of the Championship table while the one after they made it all the way to Wembley before losing to Fulham in the playoff final.

Summer 2018 was fraught with anxiety for the Villa fanbase amid financial issues and even when those were resolved, it took a while for things to come together on the pitch.

Steve Bruce was sacked before the year was out, Dean Smith was brought in, and in March, Villa embarked on a superb winning run which ultimately sealed their place in the playoffs.

There is now optimism in the air as the West Midlanders seek to return to the top flight and ex-Villa ace Angel pulled no punches about what he hoped for the end of the season.

“This club does not belong to the Championship, it must be in the Premier League,” he told the official Villa YouTube channel. “Everyone taking part in the history of the club can tell you it’s a shame to be where we are.

“We must do whatever it is to get back to where we belong. We’re Premier League, not Championship. It’s as simple as that.”

The retired Colombia international, who plied his trade as a striker, made 192 appearances for Villa, scoring 57 goals, according to Transfermarkt,
