Juan Foyth reacts after making his debut at Wembley, thanks one Tottenham team-mate

Juan Foyth made his Tottenham debut against Barnsley on Tuesday night.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Juan Foyth has told the club’s official website that he is ‘very happy’ to have made his debut for Spurs against Barnsley on Tuesday night.

After suffering disappointment in the Premier League on Saturday evening with a 0-0 home draw against Swansea City, Spurs turned their attention to the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night, as Championship side Barnsley travelled to Wembley.

Whilst Spurs were huge favourites for the game, it proved to be a frustrating evening for Tottenham, and they settled for a 1-0 win thanks to Dele Alli’s winning goal, having struggled to break down the Tykes.

Spurs are now into the next round of the competition, and Pochettino will not only be happy with a win, but also with the fact that he was able to hand debuts Juan Foyth and Fernando Llorente.

Defender Foyth was making his first appearance for Spurs since signing from Estudiantes in his native Argentina last month, starting in the heart of defence alongside Jan Vertonghen.

Foyth, 19, had emerged as one of the top young talents in Argentina, and former Argentinian international centre back Pochettino swooped to land him last month in a bid to develop him behind Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld and fellow new signing Davinson Sanchez.

After his debut against Barnsley, in which he helped Spurs keep a clean sheet, Foyth told the club’s official website that he is ‘very happy’ to have come through the game with a win, admitting that Spurs always believe in themselves to win even in tricky circumstances.

Foyth added his thanks to Vertonghen for helping him through the game, adding that it’s amazing to have played at such a beautiful stadium as Wembley.

“I am very happy,” said Foyth. “Very happy to make my debut, but more happy because we won. It was difficult, they close very good, but later we scored the goal and win. We believe in us, it’s great.”

“Jan is a very good player, he helped me a lot, and I’m very happy and thanks to Jan. It’s a beautiful stadium, it’s amazing really – a dream,” he added.
