Juan Carlos Ferrero has spoken publicly for the first time about his split with Carlos Alcaraz, shedding light on what led to the decision and whether a future reunion could be on the cards.
After seven years together, Alcaraz and Ferrero went their separate ways earlier this year, bringing an end to one of the most successful partnerships in modern tennis.
The split came shortly after the ATP Finals, where Alcaraz finished the season strongly.
According to Ferrero, the decision followed disagreements over some contractual details and long-term planning within the team.

Juan Carlos Ferrero leaves the door open for a future reunion
Speaking to Marca, Ferrero made it clear that while they have parted ways professionally, his relationship with Alcaraz remains strong.
“Of course I’m not closing the door. With the relationship we’ve had, closing the door definitively wouldn’t be logical, neither for him nor for the team,” Ferrero stated.
He added: “I want to end things well with them. Disagreeing on certain points doesn’t mean we’re not still friends or that we don’t maintain a very good relationship.”
Ferrero, who first started working with Alcaraz when he was just fifteen, reflected on their time together as a period of immense growth and success.
Under his guidance, Alcaraz rose to world number one, won two Grand Slam titles, and became one of the sport’s most complete young players. Ferrero said their split came down to differing opinions rather than personal issues.
He also acknowledged that after nearly eight years of travel, training, and competition, both needed time apart to reset.
Ferrero admitted the separation was painful but said mutual respect remains at the core of their connection.
Juan Carlos Ferrero’s admiration for Carlos Alcaraz remains unchanged
Despite no longer being part of Alcaraz’s team, Ferrero continues to believe in the twenty-two-year-old’s potential.
“I wish Carlos all the best and I believe he has the potential to be the best tennis player in history. It’s something I’ve said many times.
“And, even without me, he has people around him who can prepare him very well,” Ferrero concluded.
Ferrero’s words underline the bond that defined their years together. The two shared countless milestones, from early Challenger events to major triumphs on the sport’s biggest stages.
Even after parting ways, their mutual admiration remains clear. As Alcaraz begins a new chapter with a restructured coaching team, Ferrero steps away with pride in what they achieved.
Whether their paths cross again remains to be seen, but his message leaves that possibility open and grounded in lasting respect.
