The Liverpool stars should be back in action in around six weeks according to their manager.
Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp spoke to reporters today during his pre-match press conference, and provided an injury update on two of his key players Joe Gomez and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, as quoted by the Independent.
The Reds currently sit in second place in the Premier League table, level on points with league leaders Manchester City, although they do have a game in hand on Pep Guardiola’s side.
Liverpool have a real problem in the right-back position, however, with Trent Alexander-Arnold currently out injured, and Nathaniel Clyne having been loaned out to Bournemouth in January.
Both Gomez and the Ox can fill in at right-back, so the sooner that the duo are back and available for selection, the better for Klopp.
The German addressed the media today, and suggested that both players could be back involved with the first-team squad in around six weeks, as quoted by the Independent:
“Joe’s surgery went pretty well, but [it will be] four to six weeks to return to play. If we got to the semis of the Champions League again, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain should be available, quarter-finals maybe. We put him in the squad as we think there’s the chance for him to play.”
Next up for Liverpool is a clash with Bournemouth at Anfield tomorrow, and Klopp will be desperate for his side to get back on track with a victory.
He will also be keen to get Gomez and Oxlade-Chamberlain back and available for selection, but judging by his comments today, that will still be some time off yet.
