Sunderland are bottom of the Premier League with just two points.
Sunderland midfielder Duncan Watmore has told the club’s official website that the players do not need a lift from supporters to end their horrific start to the season.
The Black Cats are rock bottom of the league with just two points after 10 games, recording the worst ever start to a Premier League season.
While the Sunderland fans will always give the players a boost, Watmore, who spoke to safc.com following a trip to local car factory Nissan, believes the players are the ones that need to be doing more, outlining how they can turn things around.

“Coming round here [Nissan], I think that’s lifted a lot of the players, not that we need lifting,” Watmore told safc.com.
“We need to kick-start our season and we haven’t been good enough, but the only way we can do that is going in with a positive mindset, working hard for each other and doing the basics right.”
Next up for Sunderland is a trip to Bournemouth, where yet again fans from Wearside will travel the length of the country to support their team, despite their shocking position.

The fans can only do so much, and Watmore’s honesty shows that he knows the responsibility lies on the shoulders of the players. The supporters have already given them their backing this season and have not been rewarded with performances worthy of their faith in the club.
Doing the basics right is something that has eluded the Black Cats all season, with countless sloppy mistakes costing them dearly throughout the opening 10 games of the season. David Moyes’ side need to tighten up and play as a unit.
Watmore’s three-point plan for success should work a treat for him and his teammates, providing every player pulls their weight.
