Newcastle United winger Matt Ritchie has told nufc.co.uk that he knows exactly what his teammates are going to do on the pitch as the squad begins to gel together.

The Magpies were one of the busiest sides in the transfer window over the summer, with manager Rafael Benitez overseeing a squad overhaul which included bringing Ritchie to the club from Bournemouth.

With so many new faces arriving, it takes time for bonds to form on the pitch, but Ritchie believes those bonds are getting quite strong already.

“(We had) a lot of new bodies and ideas at the start of the season and maybe not everyone was quite on the same wavelength, and now I think that we’re all coming together,” Ritchie told nufc.co.uk.

“Personally for me, I feel like I know what Dwight’s [Gayle] going to do, I know what Jonjo’s [Shelvey] going to do, I know what Jack’s [Colback] going to do, and everyone’s learning with the players around them.”

Ritchie has become a fan favourite during his short time on Tyneside, with fans singing about him being magic and donning a magic hat, but whether those magic skills stretch to mind-reading, only the winger knows.

The Scotland international has had a strong start and scored the Magpies’ third goal in the 3-0 win over Ipswich, having already provided the assist for Ayoze Perez’s second strike.

Newcastle have so much momentum behind them right now and are only going to get stronger as the season goes on as the players continue to learn more and more about each other.
