Preston’s task was made even harder before 30 minutes were on the clock when Alan Browne was shown a straight red card for a foul on Jack Colback.

Mohamed Diame doubled Newcastle’s lead before the break, then things got real ugly in the second half.

A 55th minute penalty from Matt Ritchie made it 3-0, and it was four a couple of minutes later when Mitrovic bagged his second. A fifth came from Diame, and it was a sensational six in stoppage time when substitute Ayoze Perez neatly found the bottom corner.
