Mitrovic knows what the Newcastle fans want from their players

Newcastle United host league leaders Norwich City in their next Championship game.

Forward Aleksandar Mitrovic has been discussing his and the team’s relationship with the Newcastle United fans and their expectations in an interview on nufc.co.uk.

The 22-year-old has just one goal to his name this season, which has been disrupted due to suspension, but he will be hoping to get a chance in the club’s next game against Norwich City. The Serbian played in both games against the Canaries last season, scoring three goals in the process.

In the build-up to the Magpies’ clash with league leaders Norwich, Mitrovic has spoken about what the fans expect of the team.

“The relationship between the players and fans is really close. They just want the players to fight and give everything on the pitch, and that’s the most important thing for them,” Mitrovic told nufc.co.uk.

The young striker has only started one Championship game so far, the 6-0 drubbing of QPR, but could be in contention to start on Wednesday evening.

Mitrovic is already something of a cult figure on Tyneside, despite only being in his second season at St James’ Park. The fans’ admiration for his passion and desire have made him a hero already in black and white, despite not scoring as many goals as he should have last season.

Newcastle’s number 45, affectionately known as Mitro, has a unique ability to raise the volume inside St James’ Park, and his name often rings around the stands, much to the delight of the striker.

“It’s nice to hear my song, I like to hear it,” he said. “It’s always nice to hear fans singing your name, especially when the stadium is full with 50,000 people. It sounds amazing.”

Should Mitrovic be involved against Norwich, he will likely hear his name sung by an almost full house yet again, with the club confirming that they have sold 47,500 tickets for the game against Alex Neil’s side.
