The Three Lions needed a late goal to beat the Bulgaria Under-19 side.

Tottenham Hotspur youngster Marcus Edwards scored England Under-19s’ opener in the 2-1 victory over Bulgaria.

The 17-year-old put England in front after just nine minutes, scoring an almost perfect goal. England’s neat and fast passing football got them in behind the Bulgaria defence, but as they looked to pull it back across the face of goal, the away goalkeeper Daniel Naumov got a hand on the ball, but was only able to palm it into the path of Edwards, who was able to volley it into the roof of the net.

Bulgaria found an equaliser in the 70th minute, but a 93rd minute strike from Chelsea’s Dujon Sterling gave the England Under-19s the victory.

Edwards played the full 90 minutes for England, and deserved his goal after a great performance at Spotland.

The attacking midfielder will be hoping that he can do enough to impress Spurs boss Maurico Pochettino, with the Argentine already aware of his talents, having used him during pre-season.

Edwards is touted as a future star of the game, and it will not be long before he climbs through the England ranks and into the senior side.

All the headlines are about Marcus Rashford being an England international at such a young age, and Edwards could feasibly make the same headlines in the coming years if he is given a chance to shine.
