Diame scored twice in Newcastle United’s 6-0 thrashing of Preston North End.
Newcastle United midfielder Mohamed Diame has told the club’s official website that he has struggled to be confident having not scored for the Magpies until he netted twice in the 6-0 win over Preston North End.
The former Hull City man has had a tough start to his time on Tyneside, with multiple below par performances which left supporters scratching their heads as to why manager Rafael Benitez continued to select him.
Diame finally got his first Newcastle goals on Tuesday night and he could not hide his delight.

“I was so happy that I got these goals,” Diame told nufc.co.uk.
“It wasn’t easy to have confidence when you’re not scoring goals or not even hitting the target sometimes. I missed one tonight, an easy one.
“But I’m happy to have scored two, and I hope that that will continue.”
Both of Diame’s strikes against Preston were from impressive efforts from distance, but the Senegal international still managed to miss the easiest chance of the night, skewing the ball wide after having it put on a plate for him by Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Despite his embarrassing miss, Diame will be ecstatic to open his Newcastle account, and fans will be hoping that the summer signing can kick on now and help the team back to the Premier League.
The midfielder is a favourite of Benitez, and hopefully he will start to become a favourite of the fans if he can grab more goals like he did against Preston.
