Nigel Pearson’s side were beaten 3-0 by Liverpool in round three of the EFL Cup.

Derby were knocked out of the EFL Cup following a 3-0 defeat to Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.

The Rams went into the game having only scored four goals all season, with two of those coming from the previous rounds of the competition. The home side fell behind after 24 minutes when Estonian defender Ragnar Klavan scored for the Reds, making Nigel Pearson’s task even harder as his goal-shy side faced an uphill task against one of the form teams in the Premier League.

Pearson made five changes to the side that drew 1-1 with Bristol City on Saturday, but the might of Liverpool was too much, and Klopp’s star-studded line up doubled their lead in the 50th minute through Philippe Coutinho.

Divock Origi then made it 3-0 four minutes later, piling on further misery for the Derby fans, who yet again saw their side fail to find the net.

A cup exit will help Pearson focus on the league, which is the club’s main priority, but another performance lacking any attacking zest will only heighten the Derby faithful’s worries.

The Rams take on Blackburn Rovers at home in the Championship on Saturday, where they will go in search of their second league win of the season.

In the meantime, Derby fans have taken to Twitter to react to their EFL Cup exit, and they’re not happy about how it happened.
