Carlos Carvalhal thinks his side is playing better than they were last season

Sheffield Wednesday continued their good form with a 1-0 win over Queens Park Rangers.

Sheffield Wednesday manager Carlos Carvalhal has sent a warning to the rest of the Championship by telling the Sheffield Star that his team are playing better than they did last season.

The Owls narrowly missed out on promotion last season, losing the play-off final to Hull City, but they are back in contention to achieve promotion this time round, with their latest victory coming at home to Queens Park Rangers, with Gary Hooper getting the only goal of the game.

After the win, Carvalhal insisted his side have improved and are even more prepared for the rigours ahead.

“We are in a good way in the league,” Carvalhal told the Sheffield Star.

“We are more ready than last season; we are so far playing at a higher level than last season.”

Wednesday moved up to fifth after Saturday’s win, four points off the automatic promotion positions. The top two will be Carvalhal’s overall aim, with the agony of last season’s play-off defeat no doubt putting the Portuguese manager off going via that route again.

The South Yorkshire club did some great business in the summer, and their squad has only grown stronger, and now their performances are too, which will be a frightening thought for the rest of the division.

Wednesday have found their form and are now an a march up the Championship table. With the quality in the league higher than it was last year, it was imperative that Carvalhal’s side improved and he believes his team have done exactly that.
