Newcastle United winger Rolando Aarons has started just once this season in the Championship.
Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has told The Chronicle that Aarons is closing in on a return to fitness, having been out injured since the Magpies’ EFL Cup second round clash with Cheltenham Town.
The 20-year-old was stretchered off during the first half of the cup tie, breaking a bone in his foot which has kept him on the sidelines for more than two months.
Aarons has had multiple injury problems during his short career, but Benitez has some positive news about the winger’s fitness.

“Rolando Aarons is getting closer and Daryl Murphy is much better,” Benitez told The Chronicle.
“The medical department are doing a great job.”
Murphy and Rob Elliot are also getting closer to a return, but the news that Aarons could be back after the international break will have been the most exciting for Newcastle fans.
The youngster is a fan-favourite on Tyneside with his lightening pace, but has had limited first team chances due to injury. Aarons had a spell in the side last season under former manager Steve McClaren, but unfortunately that was at left back.

Aarons has started just one league game so far this season, playing on the left side of midfield in the Magpies’ 2-1 defeat to Huddersfield Town in the second game of the season. However, it did not go well at all for the speedster, who was hooked at half time for Matt Ritchie.
The England Under-20 international is an exciting prospect, and he will be hoping that he is given a chance by Benitez when he returns from injury. Aarons needs to be prove he can be relied upon, with his inconsistent performances meaning he is not a guaranteed starter at Newcastle, despite his natural ability.
