Aston Villa continued their strong start under new boss Steve Bruce with a 1-0 win over Fulham.
Aston Villa goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini has told the club’s official website that he is not concerned by the lack of quality football his teammates played against Fulham, stating that winning is what matters.
Steve Bruce’s side won the game 1-0 thanks to Jonathan Kodjia’s goal, which was gifted to the home side by Fulham stopper David Button, whose poor clearance could only find Albert Adomah who neatly picked out the Ivorian to score the winner.
Villa wasted a lot of chances despite seeing just 34 per cent of the ball, but Gollini was not fazed
“The most important thing is the three points. Everyone was happy with the result. It was a good performance,” Gollini told avfc.co.uk.
“Maybe we didn’t play the best football but the result is what’s important. We did what we needed to do.”
Results are all that matter right now for Bruce and Aston Villa, who are playing catch-up in the race for promotion after a disappointing start to the season under Roberto Di Matteo.
However, things have turned around under the former Hull City boss, who has picked up seven points from his opening three games as manager, lifting the club up to 16th.
Bruce’s biggest task was getting rid of the losing culture that was surrounding the club, and it appears though the 55-year-old is doing that. As more wins come, the confidence of the players will only increase, meaning better performances from Villa’s previously under-performing stars.
