Watford supporters criticise ‘pathetic’ Holebas on Twitter

Middlesbrough held Watford to a goalless draw at Vicarage Road.

Watford played out a frustrating goalless draw with 16th-placed Middlesbrough on Saturday, but it was the behaviour of defender Jose Holebas that drew the ire of many supporters.

As the Hornets pushed for a late winner, Holebas slowly walked off the pitch when he was being replaced by Carlos Zungia in the 89th minute.

The Greek full-back joined Watford in the summer of 2015 and has been a regular in the side under Walter Mazzarri. However, many Hornet supporters were left bemused by Holebas’s lack of urgency, with the club seeking their first league win of 2017.

This is not the first time Holebas’s attitude has come under scrutiny. He was involved in a bizarre on-field spat with Etienne Capoue at the end of the reverse fixture, after netting a stunning goal which gave the Hornets a valuable away win.
