Ahead of West Bromwich Albion’s trip to Chelsea, we take a look at the last five meetings between the two sides.
West Brom 1-1 Chelsea (11th February, 2014 – Premier League)
A late Victor Anichebe strike was enough to take West Bromwich Albion out of the Premier League relegation zone.
Branislav Ivanovic had given Chelsea the lead, when he turned the ball home from Willian’s corner late into first half stoppage time. The visitors had chances to extend their lead but saves from Ben Foster kept Willian and Samuel Eto’o at bay. In the 87th minute, substitute Anichebe headed Albion’s equaliser with their first attempt on target of the whole game.
Chelsea 2-0 West Brom (22nd November, 2014 – Premier League)
Chelsea extended their unbeaten start to the season by beating 10-man West Brom at Stamford Bridge.
Diego Costa and Eden Hazard gave the hosts a two-goal advantage within the first 25 minutes, before Claudio Yacob saw red for two-footed tackle on Costa.
The result helped Chelsea move seven points clear at the top of the league; while the Baggies stayed in 13th.
West Brom 3-0 Chelsea (18th May, 2015 – Premier League)
The newly-crowned Premier League champions were left stunned at The Hawthorns by a rampant West Brom side.
Albion took an early lead through Saido Berahino, before Cesc Fabregas was given his marching orders for kicking the ball at Chris Brunt. Berahino and Brunt added goals in the second half to round off West Brom’s final home game of the season in style.
West Brom 2-3 Chelsea (23rd August, 2015 – Premier League)
10-man Chelsea narrowly snuck past West Brom to record their first win of the season.
Pedro and Costa fired the visitors into an early two-goal lead. James Morrison pulled one back for the Baggies, but Cesar Azpilicueta’s strike restored Chelsea two-goal cushion heading into half time.
Shortly after the break, John Terry was sent off for a foul on Salomon Rondon, and the home side pulled one back moments later through Morrison. Albion pushed for an equaliser but Chelsea held out to take all three points. Defeat meant the Baggies stayed rooted to the bottom of the league.
Chelsea 2-2 West Brom (13th January, 2016 – Premier League)
West Brom fought back twice to earn a hard-fought point at Stamford Bridge.
Azpilicueta put Chelsea ahead from Ivanovic’s cross, before Craig Gardner levelled for Albion with a long-range drive. Gareth McAuley turned Willian cross into his own net to pull Chelsea back into the lead, but James McClean’s excellent strike gave the visitors a well-deserved point with just four minutes to spare.
