We take a look at the talking points ahead of West Bromwich Albion’s game against Manchester City.
Who replaces Yacob?
Claudio Yacob will miss his first league game of the season after collecting his fifth yellow card of the campaign against Liverpool. Chris Brunt replaced the Argentine in the second half at Anfield but James Morrison came on shortly after to take up the central role.
The Scottish midfielder is the obvious choice to fill in for Yacob and could be in line for his first Premier League start since early January. Sam Field and Craig Gardner provide alternative options for Pulis if he feels Morrison is not ready.
Full-back troubles
Allan Nyom has been given a hard time at left-back in the last two games against Liverpool and Tottenham. The Cameroonian was partly at fault for Liverpool’s first goal, as he misjudged the flight of Roberto Firmino’s cross, allowing Saido Mane to tap home. It may be wise for Pulis to look elsewhere for the visit of Manchester City.
With Brunt edging towards full fitness, Pulis might be tempted to restore the Northern Ireland international to West Bromwich Albion’s defence. If not, he has the option to recall Jonny Evans at left-back and keep the Olsson/McAuley partnership in the middle. Albion’s only natural left-back, Brendan Galloway, seems to have fallen out of favour following his second-half struggles against West Ham.
Wounded City
After a brilliant start to their season, Pep Guardiola’s City side are six games without a win in all competitions. They will only have two days to recover from their Manchester derby defeat, with another huge game against Barcelona to follow on Tuesday.
There is never an easy time to play City but with Pep’s men wobbling and such a huge Champions League game looming, this may be West Brom’s best opportunity to register their first league win over City since 21 December 2008.
