Ahead of their meeting this weekend, we pick an XI of recent players who have played for both West Bromwich Albion and Derby County.
GK: Russell Hoult
Appearances for Derby: 67 (1995-2000)
Appearances for West Brom: 182 (2001-2007)
Hoult helped both clubs win promotion to the English football’s top flight. First, he was part of Jim Smith’s Derby County side that finished second in the First Division during the 1995/6 season.
After a spell with Portsmouth, he joined West Bromwich Albion and became an integral part of Gary Megson’s 2001/2 promotion winning team.
RB: Andre Wisdom
Appearances for Derby: 38 (2013-2014)
Appearances for West Brom: 26 (2014-2015)
Wisdom spent a season on loan at both clubs. The Liverpool youngster was a regular in Steve McClaren’s Rams side and started in their play-off final defeat to Queens Park Rangers.
Following Derby’s failure to win promotion, he signed for West Brom and was an early season starter under Alan Irvine. However, his unconvincing performances and the arrival of Tony Pulis saw him lose his place in the side.
LB: Martin Albrechtsen
Appearances for Derby: 42 (2008-2009)
Appearances for West Brom: 138 (2004-2008)
The Danish defender made a club-record move from FC Copenhagen to West Brom as part of Megson’s recruitment for the 2004/5 Premier League campaign. Albrechtsen never quite lived up to his billing at the Hawthorns and was predominately used as a full-back.
He left the Baggies to sign for Derby on a free transfer but a hernia injury disrupted his impressive start to life with the Rams.

CB: Matt Carbon
Appearances for Derby: 20 (1996-1998)
Appearances for West Brom: 113 (1998-2001)
Carbon played 14 times for Derby in the Premier League before moving to West Brom.
The ex-Lincoln defender would feature alongside the likes of Daryl Burgess and Tony Butler in the heart of Albion defence, until he left for Walsall in 2001.
CB: Darren Moore
Appearances for Derby: 90 (2006-2008)
Appearances for West Brom: 105 (2001-2006)
As the rock in front of Russell Hoult, Moore was a key member of the Albion defence that helped the club win promotion in 2002.
The imposing centre-back became a cult hero at the Hawthorns and is now back at the club in a coaching role. Moore was also a popular figure at Derby, helping the club to a Championship play-off final win over the Baggies in 2007.
RM: Giles Barnes
Appearances for Derby: 94 (2005-2009)
Appearances for West Brom: 28 (2010-2011)
Barnes rose from the Derby youth academy to earn his first senior appearance at the age of 17.
His pacey performances helped the Rams win promotion in the 2006/7 season but injuries soon halted his momentum. Barnes failed rediscover his previous form in a short spell with the Albion.
LM: Kevin Kilbane
Appearances for Derby: 9 (2011)
Appearances for West Brom: 106 (1997-1999)
Kilbane impressed in his time with the Baggies after becoming the club’s first one-million pound signing.
At the other end of his career, he would only have a short stint on loan at Derby which was curtailed by a back injury.
CM: George Thorne
Appearances for Derby: 33 (2014-present)
Appearances for West Brom: 10 (2009-2014)
Thorne came through the youth ranks at West Brom and was sent out on loan to Portsmouth, Peterborough United and Watford to gain experience.
However, it was in his spell with Derby where he would really excel. Following Derby’s play-off defeat to QPR, Thorne would hand in a transfer request to help force through a permanent switch to Pride Park. The midfielder has since struggled with an unfortunate string of injuries.
CM: Chris Baird
Appearances for Derby: 32 (2015-present)
Appearances for West Brom: 24 (2014-2015)
The former Northern Ireland international spent a season at West Brom before becoming the fifth player to sign for Paul Clement at Derby.
The versatile ex-Fulham man would be named captain for the 2015/16 season.
ST: Robert Earnshaw
Appearances for Derby: 25 (2007-2008)
Appearances for West Brom: 46 (2004-2006)
Earnshaw fired eleven goals for West Brom in their ‘great escape’ season, including a hat-trick against Charlton Athletic and a late equaliser at Old Trafford against Manchester United.
However, he would not have the same success with the Rams. Despite signing for a club-record fee from Norwich City, he only managed two goals in his time at Derby.
ST: Paul Peschisolido
Appearances for Derby: 91 (2004-2007)
Appearances for West Brom: 45 (1996-1997)
Peschisolido was Albion’s joint top goal scorer with Andy Hunt as Ray Harfod’s side finished the 1996/7 season in 16th place.
The Canadian forward would play for Derby towards the end of his career and chip in with 20 goals in a three year spell. Peschisolido’s final game for the club came in the 1-0 play-off final win over the Baggies.
