Queens Park Rangers and Sunderland meet in the EFL Cup Third Round this Wednesday.

Before the game at Loftus Road, let’s take a look back at the previous five fixtures between the two sides.

Sunderland 3-1 QPR (Premier League – 24th March, 2012)

Goals from Nicklas Bendtner, James McClean and Stephane Sessegnon gave Sunderland a convincing victory over relegation threatened QPR. Taye Taiwo’s free-kick pulled one back for the visitors but a red card for Djibril Cisse compiled a miserable afternoon for Mark Hughes’ side.

Sunderland 0-0 QPR (Premier League – 27th November, 2012)

Harry Redknapp’s first game in charge of QPR ended goalless in a cagey affair at the Stadium of Light. Cisse could have broken the deadlock on three occasions but failed to beat Simon Mignolet in the Sunderland goal. The result did little to ease the pressure on these two struggling sides.

QPR 3-1 Sunderland (Premier League – 9th March, 2013)

QPR completed their second win on the bounce to boost their survival chances. Sunderland took the lead against the run of play as Steven Fletcher finished off a clinical counter-attack. QPR fought back and Loic Remy netted the equaliser – his third goal in five games. Andros Townsend and Jermaine Jenas completed the scoring to hand QPR victory over a Sunderland side who themselves were only six points off the relegation zone.

QPR 1-0 Sunderland (Premier League – 30th August, 2014)

Charlie Austin returned from injury to net QPR’s first goal of season and give Harry Redknapp’s side their first win of the season. Austin replaced the Chelsea-bound Loic Remy in the starting line-up, as Redknapp switched from a 3-5-2 formation to a 4-3-3. The tactical change paid off and Guy Poyet’s Sunderland side failed to find an equaliser.

Sunderland 0-2 QPR (Premier League – 10th February, 2015)

QPR put an end to their woeful away run with a much needed away win at Sunderland. A header from Leroy Fer put the R’s ahead before Bobby Zamora doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time. Sunderland had only won two home games prior to this game and couldn’t find a way past Rob Green. The result saw QPR climb out of the relegation zone and above both Aston Villa and Burnley. While Sunderland sat in 14th place, only two points ahead of QPR.
