Hull City lost 2-0 at home Saturday to already-relegated Sunderland.
Saturday was a horrible day for Hull City supporters.
The Tigers were beaten 2-0 at the KCOM Stadium by bottom-of-the-league Sunderland – before relegation rivals Swansea City collected all three points from Everton in the evening fixture. The results mean Marco Silva’s men have dropped back into the drop zone, with the two games left to save their Premier League status.
Hull went behind in the 69th minute when Billy Jones turned the ball home from a corner. Jermaine Defoe sealed the visitors’ sixth victory of the season – and second against the Tigers – with a close range finish two minutes into stoppage time.
All eyes then turned to the Liberty Stadium to see whether Swansea could capitalise on Silva’s first league home defeat since 2014. To the despair of Hull fans, Fernando Llorente’s first-half header was enough to secure a crucial win for Paul Clement’s side.
It means the Tigers could be relegated next weekend if they lose to Crystal Palace – and Swansea beat Sunderland. If not, the scrap for survival will go down to the final game of the season with Hull hosting Tottenham Hotspur and the Swans welcoming West Bromwich Albion to the Liberty.
