Celtic defender Jozo Simunovic wants to remain at the Scottish Premiership club.
Celtic defender Jozo Simunovic has told The Glasgow Evening Times that he wants to remain at the club.
According to The Glasgow Evening Times, Italian outfit Torino wanted to sign Simunovic from Celtic in the summer of 2016.
The 22-year-old centre-back has stated that he is happy at Celtic Park at the moment, and that he is happy to carry on playing for the Glasgow giants.
“I am happy here in Glasgow,” Simunovic told The Glasgow Evening Times. “I want to keep improving as a player, to keep getting better.
“I think this season I feel as though I have made those improvements. I feel that the manager believes in me and I think I have shown that I have something to offer.
“You never know what the future holds in football. But just now this is a club that plays European football every year, we are winning and we are successful. That isn’t something to ignore.”
Simunovic is only 22 years of age and is still developing as a footballer, but he seems to be mature enough to value what he has got going for him at Celtic.
Celtic are one of the biggest clubs in the world, have a massive fanbase, and, under manager Brendan Rodgers, could establish themselves as Champions League regulars in the coming years.
The Croatian defender’s comments should be a reminder to his Celtic teammate Moussa Dembele about what he could achieve at the club.
The 20-year-old forward is one of the best players in the Scottish Premiership and has been superb for the Bhoys so far this season.
The French youngster has been linked with moves away from the Glasgow giants in the summer transfer window, with The Independent crediting Manchester United and Chelsea with interest in him.
The Mirror has claimed that Arsenal want Dembele, but perhaps the youngster should resist the temptation to leave Celtic and play for the Hoops for at least one more season.
As Simunovic says, Celtic are winning trophies, playing in the Champions League and are successful. What more could Dembele want?
