Craig Levein’s side put the Bhoys to the sword with ruthless efficiency, and both Boyata and Simunovic struggled throughout the contest.
The centre-back pairing never looked settled throughout the game, with Kyle Lafferty causing them a great deal of problems.
And if Rodgers had any doubts over wanting to sign a centre-back in January, those will surely have been eradicated now.
It is clear to see that Celtic need to strengthen at the back, if they are to push on to the next level.
Simunovic and Boyata had already been exposed at European level this term, but had generally performed well in domestic competition.
But the alarm bells are now ringing, with Simunovic and Boyata both struggling against Hearts, and Celtic now must bring in a new centre-back when the transfer window re-opens.
