Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon was linked with a move away from Celtic Park in the January transfer window.
Celtic defender Jozo Simunovic has told The Glasgow Evening Times that Craig Gordon has been reliable for the team so far this season.
Gordon is the first-choice goalkeeper at Celtic at the moment and is playing well for the Bhoys.
The Scotland international has established himself as a key figure for the Bhoys and recently signed a three-and-a-half contract.
According to The Glasgow Evening Times, Premier League giants Chelsea wanted to sign former Heart of Midlothian and Sunderland goalkeeper Gordon in the January transfer and made two bids.
Celtic centre-back Simunovic, who is 22 years of age, has praised his 34-year-old teammate.
“He has been so reliable for us this season,” Simunovic told The Glasgow Evening Times about Gordon. “I was really pleased when he said that he was staying at the club because he is such a strong goalkeeper.
“I think it does give you confidence when you know you have that behind you – a really experienced and clever goalkeeper. It is good news for Celtic and it is good news for the defenders.”
Celtic are set to win the Scottish Premiership title this season. Brendan Rodgers’s side at the top of the league table at the moment with 83 points from 29 matches.
The Glasgow giants will take on Hearts away from home at the Tynecastle Stadium in the Scottish Premiership after the international break.
