Celtic’s Jozo Simunovic has been passed fit to face Bayern Munich.
The Daily Mail reported back in June that a host of Premier League clubs were weighing up an £8 million deal for Celtic defender Jozo Simunovic.
Celtic fans were outraged over the price but the Croatian centre-back can prove he is worth a lot more with a solid performance this week.
The Hoops travel to Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday and the 23-year-old has a chance to show that his reported price-tag in the summer was grossly below his true valuation.
The problem with being perhaps the best centre-back in the Scottish Premiership is that you’re considered unproven until you show the same qualities against much better sides.
But Simunovic will come up against in-form Bayern hitman Robert Lewandowski and shackling the Poland international would go a long way to showing that he is indeed the real deal.
Of course, caging Lewandowski – who already has 13 goals this season – is much easier said than done, and failing to silence the former Borussia Dortmund star would not necessarily mean that Simunovic isn’t worth a whole lot more than £8 million.
But a good performance against one of the world’s best, on this stage, would increase by value dramatically and prove that Celtic fans were right during the summer.
