Yannick Bolasie’s loan move to Anderlecht on deadline day raised a few eyebrows to say the least, but it is certainly paying dividends for the winger.

Bolasie spent the first half of the season out on loan at Aston Villa in the Championship, with his arrival seen as a major coup for Steve Bruce at the time.

However, the DR Congo winger failed to really live up to expectations at Villa Park, notching two goals and four assists in 21 appearances for the club.

In January, Bolasie’s loan move was terminated, and he headed back to Everton – but not for long as he left Goodison Park for a loan to Anderlecht on Romelu Lukaku’s advice.

Bolasie, 29, hit his first goal for Anderlecht last week, scoring the winner against Royal Antwerp, and he was in blistering form for the Belgians on Sunday.

Bolasie scored twice in a 2-2 home draw with Club Brugge, meaning it’s three goals in two games for the winger as he recaptures some of the form which made him a hero at Crystal Palace.

For Everton, it will be a sense of joy. The better Bolasie does out on loan, the more chance there is of him leaving permanently, and possibly even his value increasing a little in the process, at least in relative terms; there’s no way Everton will recoup their 2016 outlay.

Meanwhile, Villa may have a little tinge of regret, but more because they didn’t get the best out of Bolasie, rather than because they would like to have him now.
