Telegraph reporter John Percy says West Brom are set to complete the free agent signing of midfielder Tom Rogic after the Aussie playmaker left Scottish champions Celtic in the summer – following the end of his Celtic contract.
Rogic, 29, spent eight years at Celtic after joining the club back in 2014. He has since clocked up 272 appearances in all competitions – having a hand in 95 goals. Scoring 46, Rogic also laid on 49 assists for Celtic. But he has left.
Indeed, he remains a free agent. Ahead of the World Cup this winter, he will be desperate to find a new club and get back playing. The 51-time Australia international is normally a regular in his country’s side, but needs game time.
He is about to get that at West Brom. Steven Bruce’s side have struggled so far this season, sitting in a lowly 16th place with just one win from eight games – drawing six times. They need some inspiration from somewhere.
Percy reports that Rogic is in talks with West Brom over joining the Baggies after the end of the transfer window. Percy also states that the playmaker is expected to sign – which would be somewhat of a shock move at this stage.
Percy: West Brom set to complete Rogic signing after Aussie left Celtic
It would be a wonderful signing for West Brom. Rogic is the type of player who, if given the ball to feet, can create utter magic out of nothing. Goals, assists, vision, passing, he has everything you would want from a no.10.
On a free, Bruce would be pulling off somewhat of a coup. Not least because Rogic is good enough to play in the Premier League. But because it was widely expected that Rogic would delve into Europe. A really good signing.
