Journalist Rory Smith has said that Luis Enrique might not be a very good managerial appointment for Tottenham Hotspur.

The journalist has said on BBC Radio 5 Live (7:30pm, March 27, 2023) that the type of character Luis Enrique is, it might not suit Tottenham after their experiences with Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.

Tottenham parted company with Conte over the weekend.

It came after the Italian manager went on an extraordinary rant following Tottenham’s failure to win against Southampton in the Premier League.

Conte hammered the Tottenham players and also took an aim at the club’s hierarchy.

According to Italian journalist Tony Damascelli, Tottenham have Luis Enrique on their list of candidates to become the permanent manager at the end of the season.

Tottenham warned about Luis Enrique

Smith said: “Luis Enrique, I wonder if he might be too much of a personality after being exposed to Mourinho and Conte.

“Luis Enrique is an abrasive type of character, deeply intense, doesn’t suffer fools and all that stuff.”

HITC Verdict: Big decision in the summer of 2023

In our view, Tottenham Hotspur have to be very careful about who they appoint as their new manager.

Spurs have to be very clear with their next permanent manager what the expectations and what the club plan to achieve.

Now, if Tottenham do appoint Luis Enrique, they need to make it clear to the Spaniard what he would be expected to achieve.
