Express journalist Ryan Taylor has told his YouTube channel that Tottenham will have to pay Luis Diaz’s entire release clause of £67million to stand any chance of signing the Porto superstar in the next few days.
The window shuts next Monday at 11pm and reports this week claim Tottenham have made an offer to sign Colombia international Diaz. The player has been regularly linked with a move to the Premier League.
Clocking up 28 appearances this season, Diaz has scored 18 goals and laid on six assists. The 31-time Colombia star has a contract until the summer of 2024 – and Tottenham have made a bid, according to SIC Noticias.
Indeed, the fee is £37million – plus add-ons, taking the offer to £46million. That has been rejected. Taylor delivers an update, claiming that his £67million release clause will have to be met for Diaz to depart.
“As I understand it, Diaz is one of the targets on Tottenham’s radar that they are currently working on. There’s a few more that are still ongoing and have the potential to develop in the next couple of days.
“But Porto are holding out for their £67m release clause. They’re not interested in negotiating a fee that low for a player in the form of his career,” Taylor claimed, on his YouTube channel.
Tottenham eye Diaz: Is £67m too much for Porto attacker?
Diaz is a top, top player. He has shown in the Champions League that he would be able to score goals in the Premier League – and is easily good enough for any Premier League club. But is £67million too much?
Tottenham have tabled an offer worth £46million – but that is probably too low. While £67million is a lot for a player that has only played in Portugal, a compromise should be met. A fee between £50million and £55million is fair.
