Sky reporter Marc Behrenbeck says Tottenham striker Harry Kane wants to join Manchester City again – and is not renewing his Spurs contract, in order to attempt to push through a move to Pep Guardiola’s side.

Kane, 28, is back to his best. Scoring seven goals in his last eight games in all competitions, the England skipper netted his 20th of the season on Monday night. The striker scored twice as Tottenham eased past Everton 5-0.

It comes after a disappointing start to the campaign, perhaps due to the hangover of missing out on a move to Manchester City last summer. Spurs kept him, despite Kane of the belief he had a gentleman’s agreement to go.

It remains to be seen if Manchester City will reignite their attempts to sign Kane this summer, or go after Erling Haaland. But Behrenbeck says Kane wants to join Manchester City – and is signing a new deal for that reason.

“He is not renewing his contract and wants to try again in the summer to go to Manchester City,” Behrenbeck reported. “He fits perfectly into the system. In addition, it would be almost the last chance for him because of his age.”

Will Manchester City get Tottenham star Kane, amid Behrenbeck claim?

It is a somewhat surprising stance from Kane if true. Tottenham remain in the hunt for the top-four places and the striker is said to be much happier with Antonio Conte in position. So, will Kane go?

Well, if Manchester City re-bid the £127million offer they tabled last time around, one would expect that with Kane a year older, and a year closer to the expiry of his contract, Daniel Levy might be more tempted to accept.

But Kane does seem happier and is back among the goals. If Tottenham achieve fourth position, surely he will want to remain – given Spurs will be able to attract better players and Conte can really mould his squad?
