Tim Vickery has told Sky Sports News – as per Football Daily – that Tottenham could make a late move for Sevilla defender Diego Carlos. Vickery also says that Spurs could offer Giovani Lo Celso in a swap deal.
Carlos, 28, has been strongly linked with a move to Newcastle this month, but Monchi – Sevilla’s sporting director – has spoken on Thursday. He has ruled out a move to Tyneside for Carlos, despite saying the offer was good.
The Mail claimed last week that Tottenham were interested in signing the Brazil defender – after reports of an unnamed Premier League club matching Newcastle’s move for the £30million-rated (Guardian) defender.
Now, South American football expert Vickery claims Tottenham could make a late move for Carlos. He also suggests that Tottenham could look to include Lo Celso in a deal, with the player having impressed at Real Betis.
“There could be progress with Diego Carlos,” Vickery told Sky Sports News on Thursday. “He was linked with Newcastle and there was a lot of money on the table. Maybe, there could be a similar kind of move from Tottenham.
“With the window closing, well ‘how much do you want to accept?’. With, perhaps, Giovani Lo Celso, who did very well at the other side of the City with Betis, perhaps going in the opposite direction.”
Vickery on Carlos: Lo Celso swap would be good Tottenham business
Tottenham, under Antonio Conte, do not need attacking midfielders. The Italian likes to play with more defensive-type midfielders – hence the rise of Harry Winks under the Italian gaffer. Oliver Skipp, too.
It is perhaps why Dele Alli, Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele are being linked with the exit door. Sofyan Amrabat is expected to come in as cover in midfield. They also need a centre-back and Carlos is one of La Liga’s best.
He can play on the left of a back three and Spurs need that, more than most other positions. So, securing Carlos by getting rid of a player they want gone, and therefore spending less to sign Carlos, would be super business.
