Simon Phillips has told Give Me Sport that Tottenham transfer target Weston McKennie and Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes are two names on a four-man midfield list compiled by Chelsea ahead of the January window.
Chelsea boss Graham Potter is keen to add to his midfield options in the January market. N’Golo Kante’s injury issues continues, while Jorginho is out of contract next summer. A signing or two in the midfield is much needed at Chelsea.
It appears the club have drawn up a four-man shortlist. Two of those names include Ajax’s Edson Alvarez and a potential reunion between Potter and Brighton ace Moises Caicedo. Another option is Juventus ace McKennie.
A player that CM reported last week that Tottenham are considering a move for – a player Fabio Paratici actually signed for Juve. The other is Guimaraes, who continues to shine with every passing minute for Eddie Howe’s Newcastle.

“I’ve been told at the moment, Chelsea are looking at Edson Alvarez from Ajax, Moises Caicedo from Brighton, Weston McKennie from Juventus, and Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle. The latter seems ambitious,” Phillips told GMS.
Tottenham target McKennie and Newcastle star Guimaraes on Chelsea list
Chelsea desperately need a midfielder, without a doubt. Alvarez would surely be tempted by a move to Stamford Bridge from Ajax, while Caicedo would love to reunite with Potter – and Marc Cucurella. McKennie is likely to leave.
However, Chelsea will face competition from Spurs and other Premier League clubs. The hardest to persuade over a move, but perhaps the best option, would be Guimaraes. But he is loving life on Tyneside at the moment.
Why would he want to leave Newcastle with the club in the top four? He has also just had a child in the past few days. All four would be decent signings, but Guimaraes tops the lot. Newcastle will fancy their chances of keeping him.
