Tottenham and Aston Villa are reportedly eyeing a move for Barcelona midfielder Franck Kessie in the January window – but Dean Jones has told Give Me Sport that contacts close to Kessie state he is more than happy at Barcelona.
Kessie, 25, joined Barcelona in the summer from Milan. A surprise move, largely given the amount of interest in his services from England. But since then, he has struggled, managing just five starts and 13 outings in League and Cup.
Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo claim that Tottenham and Villa are interested in landing Kessie. That is, after his lack of action at Barcelona. One stumbling block is likely to be that he earns a weekly wage of £150k at the Nou Camp.
Now, Jones delivers insight from close to Kessie. He says those sources have told him that Kessie is not looking to leave Barcelona after his poor start – and is focused on winning a place in the side. He does not want to leave a failure.
“I spoke to a contact that knows a bit more about this situation, seems to think that Kessie is very focused on making a success still of this transfer and finding himself a spot in that team. He’s not somebody willing to give up.
“It was a big decision for him to go to Barcelona, and he would probably consider himself a bit of a failure if he was to leave on the back of what’s happened so far,” Transfer Insider Jones told Give Me Sport, when asked about Kessie.

Kessie would be a brilliant signing for both clubs. Villa need a goalscoring midfielder. They have one in John McGinn but ask most Villa fans and they will tell you, since he was made captain, his form has gone down compared to before.
Tottenham need a player that can go beyond Harry Kane from deep. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur have started to do it now and then. But Kessie is more natural when it comes to contributing to the final third.
