Speaking on the Seaman Says Podcast, Lynsey Hooper shared what she noticed Patrick Vieira doing after Jean-Philippe Mateta opened the scoring against Arsenal on Monday.

For Vieira, coming up against Arsenal will have been a very emotional affair. After all, he’s a bona fide Gunners legend and he has a lot of affection for his former club.

However, he will have been desperate to win on Monday, and after Mateta scored, Hooper noticed Vieira turn to his bench with a massive smile on his face, showing just how much a result against Arsenal means for him.

What’s been said?

Hooper shared what she noticed about Vieira.

“I was sat behind the dugouts and behind Patrick Vieira’s bench, and there weren’t any cameras there, so they didn’t get the shot, and when Mateta’s goal went in, he turned to the bench with this big beaming smile, so you can tell just how much it means to be able to produce a performance like that against his former club,” Hooper said.

Great feeling

As much as Arsenal fans may hate to hear just how happy Vieira was to get one over his old club, this must have been a great feeling for the Frenchman.

Cast your mind back to the game at the Emirates, Palace were denied the three points by a last-minute winner, and it must have been brilliant for Vieira to see his side go 1-0 up so early on.

Of course, 1-0 quickly became two and eventually 3-0, but for Vieira, it must have felt unreal watching that first goal hit the back of the net, especially after such disappointment earlier this season.
