On deadline day, Tottenham completed the £15m signing of Rodrigo Bentancur from Juventus, although talks hit a bump at one point.
What’s the story?
Well, Sergio Krithinas – a journalist close to the negotiations – told Record that Spurs actually made a big mistake during talks with Bentancur.
Krithinas claims that Tottenham actually sent a contract written for Luis Diaz to the Uruguay international amid the panic of deadline day.
This was said to have left a lot of people close to Bentancur “surprised” at how strange the error was.
In fairness, it makes sense. According to The Telegraph, Tottenham were in the driving seat to sign Diaz from Porto, but Liverpool hijacked the deal.
Therefore, you can understand why a contract for the Colombian was drawn up by the north Londoners.
If this is true, it’s slightly embarrassing for Spurs.
Nevertheless, it didn’t prove to be a significant moment in the negotiations, as Bentancur eventually signed the correct contract – a four-year deal.
Rodrigo Bentancur can take Tottenham up a gear

In our view, this is a fantastic signing by Fabio Paratici.
The 24-year-old boasts a wealth of experience at the highest level, having made 31 appearances in the Champions League.
Bentancur has also won the Serie A title on three occasions in addition to many more pieces of silverware, so he should bring a winning mindset to N17.

Tottenham’s midfield has lacked steel for many years now, since the likes of Moussa Dembele and Victor Wanyama were in their prime.
Now, with Bentancur partnering Oliver Skipp or Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the middle, Antonio Conte should feel much better about his midfield department.
