Transfer expert Dean Jones has told Give Me Sport that insiders at West Ham have told him that David Moyes‘ job as manager is safe, for now. The Hammers have made a poor start to their Premier League campaign, sitting in 15th place.

Having qualified for Europe in their last two seasons, Moyes brought in a whole host of new players in the summer. Spending big on the likes of Lucas Paqueta, Gianluca Scamacca, Nayef Aguerd and plenty of other new additions.

But it might be a question of getting these players to gel. While the Hammers cruised to first place in their Europa Conference League group, they are well below where many expected them to be in the League table at the moment.

Just four wins in 14 games, and two consecutive losses to Palace – in the league – and the Blackburn in the Carabao Cup on penalties – sees the Hammers in bad form. But Jones says Moyes has plenty of credit in the bank at West Ham.

“It’s a bit too soon for a club like West Ham to be putting the manager under pressure and, from what I’m told by sources inside the club, his position is not currently under threat at all. That, obviously, could change,” Jones said.

Jones: Moyes job at West Ham is safe for now, amid poor form recently

The 59-year-old is contracted at West Ham until the summer of 2024 and while a new deal is unlikely to be forthcoming as things stand, he is not going to be sacked either. Moyes has taken West Ham forward enormously.

He has made the London club a powerhouse again, realising their potential – when the likes of Manuel Pellegrini and Slaven Bilic failed to do so. Moyes is the right man for the job and they are simply a new-look team in need of time.

Moyes has to get his team to gel quickly, though. The World Cup break might be the ideal time, even if a number of players will be jetting off to Qatar. If, by February, things are not improving, then it might be time to as questions.
