Transfer expert Dean Jones has told Give Me Sport that Algerian midfielder Ahmed Kendouci has got “huge potential”. Celtic are reportedly interested in luring the midfielder to Parkhead this month, with a few days left to go.

Kendouci, 22, is starring in central midfield for Algerian outfit ES Setif. Clocking up 81 appearances in all competitions, the Algeria Under-23 man is excelling – having a hand in 31 goals. He has netted 18, creating 13.

Earlier this month, Liberte reported that Ange Postecoglou wanted to bring Kendouci to the club – despite the signings of Matt O’Riley, Yosuke Ideguchi and Reo Hatate this month. A fee for Kendouci remains unclear.

Asked about a potential Celtic move for the Algerian midfielder – who can play as a 10, box to box, or more defensive – Jones told Give Me Sport that he has “heard” Kendouci has enormous potential and Celtic is ideal for him.

“From what I’ve heard, this guy’s got huge potential. And Celtic would be a great stepping stone for him at this stage in his career,” Jones said.

Jones on Kendouci: A talent, but do Celtic really need Algerian?

Probably not. Kendouci is a player with potential, but ultimately, Celtic are so well-stocked in midfield that a move for Kendouci would see his progress stutter – due to a probable lack of game time under Postecoglou.

Celtic already had Callum McGregor, Nir Bitton, David Turnbull, Tom Rogic, James McCarthy and Ismaila Soro. Now, they have added Ideguchi, O’Riley and Hatate – the latter of whom got the MOTM award on his debut.

Another midfielder is the last thing Celtic need this month – and instead, they should be concentrating in getting some of their fringe players out of the club. Ivorian midfielder Soro might be one of those.
