Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast, Ian McGarry has shared what FSG have briefed about Jurgen Klopp’s job at Liverpool.

The Reds are of course going through quite a poor spell at the moment, and that has led to a few murmurs about Klopp’s future.

However, the owners at Anfield have reportedly briefed journalists that Klopp’s job at the club is safe.

“And (there’s been) a briefing from FSG, the owners of Liverpool, who have felt it necessary to put it out there that Jurgen Klopp’s job is safe, despite the fact that in the last two seasons he’s won the Champions League, World Club Championship and the club’s first top-flight title in 30 years.” McGarry said.

“Duncan I’m intrigued by this. We’ve talked about Klopp in the last couple of weeks, and what the situation is at Liverpool, and what exactly is going wrong. It is a subject that many people in world football are scratching their heads about.

“What do you make of the fact, you know we always joke about votes of confidence and everything else, and I don’t think this is as dramatic as that. What do you make of the fact that FSG have had to come out, well not come out publicly because this was obviously an off the record briefing, but to back up Klopp?”

McGarry is right about this being intriguing.

The fact that the owners have had to come out and make this clear is rather shocking. After all, Klopp should be in a position where his job is never questioned again after the wonders he’s worked in recent years at Anfield.

However, a poor run of form has seemingly led to a bit of speculation about his future. There’ve been rumours that he was going to walk away from the job, while news of Joachim Low’s departure from the German national team sparked a bit of panic as well.

FSG seem to be adamant that Klopp’s job is safe, and that’s of course a good thing, but it is certainly interesting to hear that they felt they needed to brief that point.
