Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast, Duncan Castles has divulged the promise that Fabio Paratici has made Antonio Conte after his arrival at Tottenham.

As we all know by now, Conte is a very particular manager who only wants to compete at the top level, and he’s been told by Paratici that Spurs will build him a squad capable of winning the Champions League.

Yes, you read that correctly, Paratici has reportedly told Conte that he will build him a squad that will rival the best in the world.

What’s been said?

Castles spoke about Conte’s arrival at Spurs.

“Obviously, Conte has this ambition to win the Champions League. I’m told he’s been made big promises by Paratici, so obviously there’s a massive financial incentive to come. I don’t have the exact figure yet on that number, but I’m told it’s in the region of the money he was given at Inter, so €12m net, so a huge contract in Premier League terms,” Castles said.

“Paratici has made him very big promises about what they will do and the team they’re going to build. The plan is to stabilise this season, if you can, get a Champions League place and then we will put a lot of money into the market to build a team that can win the Champions League. It’s good that Conte has bought into that, but, of course, the question mark is whether or not Daniel Levy will go along with the promise that is Sporting Director has made.”

So expensive

If Spurs are looking to build a squad capable of winning the world’s biggest club competition then they will have to spend big.

Tottenham don’t have many players who are at that level right now. Heung-Min Son, Harry Kane and Hugo Lloris probably are, but aside from that, it’s hard to make a case for any of Spurs’ players being at the very top level.

If Levy and Paratici are to build a squad capable of competing with the likes of PSG, Bayern, Chelsea and Manchester City then they will have to spend hundreds of millions.
