Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast, Ian McGarry has shared an update from inside the Arsenal camp.
Arsenal have seemingly turned their season around. After three losses to start the campaign, they’ve put together a run of consecutive wins, and it seems as though Mikel Arteta sparked the turnaround with a meeting behind the scenes.
Indeed, McGarry says that Arteta held a team meeting where he invited his players to speak freely about the situation, and it seems as though these clear the air talks have helped improve things at the club.
What’s been said?
McGarry shared what he knows about Arteta’s handling of Arsenal’s poor start.
“Arsenal’s start to the season was poor. However, they’ve now won three games on the bounce and our information is that Arteta took some quite dramatic steps towards remedying the poor form by inviting his whole squad and his senior players that he relies upon to speak freely in a team meeting two weeks ago to discuss what they thought was going wrong in terms of their performances and Arteta’s own performances in terms of tactics, team selection and management. A clear the air meeting was held and since then results have improved culminating in that thrashing of Tottenham Hotspur last weekend,” McGarry said.

Mature
This is an incredibly mature approach from Arteta, and seemingly a very wise one.
Far too often when a manager is in a bad situation they let their ego get the better of them and refuse to listen to any criticisms, but Arteta openly invited honesty from his players, and it seems as though that’s enabled him to analyse his squad’s flaws.
Three victories later and things are looking up for Arsenal.
Arteta is certainly a manager who has a lot to learn, but arranging this team meeting was a very mature and clever move.
