Spanish journalist Alvaro Montero told Good Morning Transfers on Sky Sports (21/01/21 at 10:05 am) that Arsenal-linked Martin Odegaard is ‘extremely angry’ at Zinedine Zidane.
Montero shared that Odegaard doesn’t understand Zidane’s decisions in recent weeks, including the left-footed playmaker being an unused substitute during Real Madrid’s Super Copa defeat to Athletic Bilbao last Thursday.
The Atheltic claim that Arsenal technical director Edu has been in talks with Real Madrid about bringing the one-time wonderkid to the Emirates.
Spanish expert Montero shared an interesting insight into Odegaard following those rumours that Arsenal want to sign him.
On Odegaard training by himself: “It all started one week ago when Real Madrid lost against Athletic Club Bilbao of the semi-final in the Spanish Super Copa,” said Montero
“It’s something that happens normally that a player, who hasn’t started in the line-up or even doesn’t have minutes, they start to train after a game.
“Well, this is typical, but it was very graphical for the Spanish press and all the fans asking themselves. ‘Why has Martin Odegaard come last August to Real Madrid if, after five months, he is only going to train after Real Madrid lost and he’s not playing?’ Many people don’t understand why he starts to train after Real Madrid lost to Bilbao.
“I guess it will be [his long-term future at Real Madrid] because Florentino Pérez, some months ago, said that ‘he will be the future of Real Madrid’. But it’s a tricky situation right now with Zidane because the player is extremely angry. He doesn’t understand Zidane’s behaviour in the last weeks.”

Arsenal are looking for that creative spark in midfield and Odegaard is an interesting option.
Whilst he is more proven than Emile Smith-Rowe on the bigger stage, he’s is still to showcase his true worth after breaking onto the scene as a highly-rated teenager.
If Arsenal were to sign Odegaard, whether on-loan or a permanent deal, they would still have to be patient with him because he is still developing.
But then, Arsenal are better of using that time to develop Smith-Rowe instead because they should either buy a ready-made player rather than someone who isn’t far off Smith-Rowe himself.
