Speaking on The Redmen TV YouTube channel, Goal journalist Neil Jones has claimed that Saul Niguez has massive admirers at Liverpool, harking all the way back to the Brendan Rodgers era.
Saul has been linked to Liverpool this summer, and the journalist claims that he has massive admirers at the club, including a come of members of the scouting team who have had an extensive look at him in Spain.
What’s been said?
Jones says that he knows for a fact that he has massive admirers within Anfield and that he actually came close to signing for the club under Brendan Rodgers.
“I know for a fact he’s got massive admirers at Liverpool and actually he was close to signing for Liverpool in the Brendan Rodgers era. In 2014 there was a spell around January where Liverpool were looking to get rid of Lucas Leiva or Lucas Leiva was looking to get rid of Liverpool. I think he was at Atletico and I think he went on loan to Real Valladolid,” Jones said.
“I know that they really like him, at least a couple of guys on the scouting team, including guys who covered him quite extensively in Spain really like the competitive element. He’s a very good player.”

Go for him
Jones may be mistaken in saying that Saul went to Real Valladolid, as he actually went to Real Vallecano, but he sounds confident in his claim that people at Liverpool are big fans of Saul.
The midfielder is a top talent, having played a starring role for Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid side for over half a decade now, and it may be time for him to come to England.
Liverpool certainly need a midfielder after the departure of Georginio Wijnaldum, and Saul is a player they should have a go at signing.
This looks to be a situation worth keeping an eye on this summer.
