Speaking on the Ranks FC Podcast, Dean Jones has been discussing Tottenham Hotspur’s transfer plans.

The north London club have been very busy this summer, making no fewer than seven senior signings already, but they’re in the market for one final signing.

Daniel James has been linked in a move that looks rather strange on the surface, but according to Jones, this is exactly the type of player Spurs want.

Indeed, the journalist states that Spurs actually want a player who can play both as a right-wing-back and up front.

What’s been said?

Jones spoke about Spurs wanting a unique type of player.

“Dan James, I know he is really admired by Paratici, which is really weird and I don’t know where that has come from, but Paratici thinks that Dan James is a good fit for what they’re looking for from a player, and what they’re looking for is quite weird. They want a right-wing-back who can also play up front, mainly off the left-side,” Jones said.

Not many out there

If Tottenham want a player who can play as both a wing-back and a striker they are fishing in a very small pond.

As Jones says, Dan James can do that job, Adama Traore can probably double-up in both roles, while someone like Denzel Dumfries could probably also fit that billing.

However, other than that, it’s slim pickings for Spurs in this regard. That is unless Antonio Conte can work his magic and find a player who he deems is able to be trained in both roles.

This is an interesting update on Tottenham’s plans, and it’s certainly a situation worth keeping an eye on as the day progresses.
